About Sharon

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by my website! I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, trained chef, author and chronic pain survivor.  I received my health coach training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and culinary  training at the Natural Gourmet Institute (NGI) in NYC. My relationship with food has been an exciting, and often frustrating one. I’m lactose intolerant and have sensitivities to gluten and soy. So, I specialize in gluten, dairy, soy and sugar free cooking and eating.

I began this road to becoming a health coach when I had my first foot surgery and gained about ten pounds. First, I saw a dietitian who asked me lots of questions but barely even looked me in the eye. She printed out a two week meal plan which included meals I had never made before and actually included dairy! She wasn't listening very well when I told her I was lactose intolerant! (I know there are wonderful dietitians out there! Maybe this woman was having a bad day?) Then along came a health coach named Mindy. I had never heard of health coaches before. We happened to be at a networking event when we met. Since my experience with the dietitian was disappointing, I decided to hire Mindy. She educated me about nutrition, gave me a plan of action for choosing foods and making meals. She gave me the support I needed to stay on track, answered my questions and gave me the encouragement I needed when things got hard.

I really wished I had the nutrition knowledge that Mindy did so I decided to attend IIN. A couple years after that I attended NGI, a culinary school which taught health supportive cooking.

I use my past personal experiences, the good and the bad, and strive to be a good listener for my clients, give food and meal recommendations that are achievable for them and educate them if they need help with knife skills and basic cooking techniques.

Oh yeah, and about my chronic pain journey? First, in 2007, I spent almost a year with severe pain in my hips. During that time I also developed pain in my feet from Morton’s Neuromas which remains today despite having had three surgeries to try to relieve it. Included in my pain journey have been unwanted sexual side effects. I talk about that and pain in my book and in the “Life Over Pain” podcast. Check those out!

I hope you’ll find valuable information here. Let me know how I can support you in your journey!

XO,

Sharon
